•P&ID --has many standards, that define the different symbols which allows-- designing a P&ID diagram.

Standard P&ID should have the following:

• Mechanical equipment with names and numbers

• All valves and their identifications

• Process piping, sizes

• vents, drains, special fittings, and reducers

• Permanent start-up and flush lines

• Flow directions

• Control inputs and outputs

• Computer control system input

• Identification of components and subsystems delivered by others

• The intended physical sequence of the equipment

• Equipment rating or capacity
